The SMB TCu 380A with Safeload is a copper intrauterine device (IUD). It is indicated for use as contraception by women of childbearing age.
The device consists of a plastic T frame wound in copper wire. The plastic frame is made of a compound of barium sulphate and low-density polyethylene. The wire contains 176mg of copper with a diameter of 0.25mm. The horizontal arms of the frame also contain sleeves of copper so that there is a total surface area of 380mm2 of active copper. There is also a filament made of high-density polyethylene for easy removal.
The SMB TCu 380A with Safeload is used as long-term female contraceptives, including adolescents and women over 40. It is suitable for patients who have previously given birth or had an abortion. It is also indicated for use as emergency contraception.
